From Shadow to Light

Faire sa place (Finding One’s Place) is an abstract textile artwork created as part of the From Shadow to Light collection. Christine worked from a single fabric painted with fern impressions, creating an organic and lively base. On this surface, she added appliqués of flowers in lace or painted fabric, along with hand and machine embroidery, guided by intuition rather than a predetermined plan.

The piece is assembled in three layers, like a quilt, and entirely hand-stitched. This slow, repetitive work enhances a sense of presence and balance, giving rise to an abstract evocation of nature. The elements seem to find their proper place in relation to each other, forming a harmonious, organic composition.

Mounted on an artist’s canvas and framed, Faire sa place invites observation and inner listening—at that moment when, by understanding the order forming around us, it becomes possible to recognize one’s own place.
