From Shadow to Light
Passages is an abstract textile artwork created as part of the From Shadow to Light collection. Like many pieces in this series, it was developed through intuitive improvisation.
Christine selected vibrant fabrics—orange, yellow, red, violet, and white—and let her creative instinct guide the assembly of the pieces into a harmonious composition.
The artwork is layered like a quilt, with a top fabric, batting, and a backing fabric. Christine enhances the visual language of the piece with her choice of surface techniques, including appliqué, hand embroidery, and machine quilting.
For Passages, she hand-embroidered floral motifs and added machine quilting that echoes these patterns rather than the fabric shapes, creating a subtle, rhythmic secondary reading of the piece.
Mounted on artist canvas, Passages is ready to hang, inviting a moment of reflection and contemplation on one’s personal journey.
