From Shadow to Light
En petits morceaux (In Small Pieces) is an abstract textile artwork from the From Shadow to Light collection. Unlike other pieces in the series, it was born from a deliberate assembly, with fabrics cut and recomposed to create an unexpected rhythm and harmony.
Christine selected fabrics in black, white, and red, arranging them in small squares separated by black strips, creating a composition where each fragment appears isolated, like a scattered puzzle. Individually, the pieces lose their original meaning, but together they tell a story of loss, fragmentation, and reconstruction.
The piece is layered in three parts: a top fabric, batting, and backing fabric. The quilting and stitch lines unite the fragments, adding depth and structure while preserving the composition’s rhythm and dynamic.
Mounted on artist canvas, En petits morceaux is ready to hang, inviting observation, reflection, and contemplation on how we can rebuild ourselves differently — stronger and more complete.
