Mémoire fossile (Fossil Memory) is a contemporary textile artwork from the Forgotten Memories collection, exploring memory embedded in matter and the traces left by time. The motifs, reminiscent of fossilised feathers, appear delicate and fragile in shades of pink and green.
Christine works from a single piece of fabric to preserve the richness, spontaneity, and fluidity of this initial hand-dyed gesture.
The artwork is constructed in three layers — top fabric, batting, and backing — like a modern quilt. Free‑motion machine quilting allows the needle to trace instinctive lines that emerge as delicate patterns on the surface. Threads accentuate certain motifs while letting colour guide the overall composition.
The shapes evoke persistent memory and the marks we leave across the course of time. Mounted on an artist’s canvas, Mémoire fossile is ready to hang, bringing a calming and contemplative presence to any space.
