Forgotten Memories
Empreinte (Imprint) is part of the The Forgotten Memories collection, a series of contemporary textile artworks exploring traces of the past and the memory held within materials. The hand-dyed fabrics are chosen for the subtle organic patterns revealed through color.
Christine works from a single piece of fabric to preserve the spontaneity, fluidity, and richness of the initial gesture.
The artwork is constructed in three layers — top fabric, batting, and backing — much like a quilt. Free-motion machine quilting allows the needle to draw instinctive lines that highlight certain shapes and let more or less abstract motifs emerge. The threads follow their own path, enhancing details while allowing color to guide the composition.
In this piece, where pink and green dominate, the shapes evoke fossil-like imprints, markings that seem to have travelled through time. These traces of the past invite a quiet reflection on our relationship to time and the place each of us occupies within it.
Mounted on an artist’s canvas, Empreinte is ready to hang and brings a soft, subtle presence to any space.
