Memories, dreams, and emotions expressed through embroidered artworks
Last winter, my creations were on display outdoors, and I had only a few pieces left to bring to the Thetford Symposium. I needed to create quickly, faster than usual. That’s when I explored my forgotten treasures: hand-dyed fabrics I had kept for years, too precious to cut without thought. Instead of seeing it as a limitation, I saw an opportunity. I let the fabric speak through its patterns and colors and worked with what it offered.
The pieces grew from a single fabric chosen for its richness and the spot that inspired me most. Then my hands guided the free-motion embroidery, following contours and shades without trying to transform everything. The result is surprising: shapes that are neither fully figurative nor completely abstract, suggesting familiar impressions while remaining soft and blurred, like memories fading over time.
This simple-looking process reveals subtle choices and a dialogue between patterns, colors, and my perspective. The meeting of material, intuition, and emotion gives the Forgotten Memories collection its depth and strength. These are unique textile art pieces, intimate yet universal.
Working in the abstract allows me to explore ideas and evoke emotions that are hard to represent figuratively. Colors, shapes, and embroidery create a sense of déjà vu or déjà felt. The image remains soft and blurred, but like a forgotten memory, the emotion resurfaces.
