Forgotten Memories

Souvenir d’un rêve (Memory of a Dream) is an abstract textile artwork created as part of the Forgotten Memories collection. Each piece in this series begins with a fabric hand-dyed by the artist, selected for the subtle patterns and hues revealed through the dyeing process.

Christine works from a single piece of fabric to preserve the spontaneity and richness of the colors, allowing the original gesture of the dye to guide the composition.

Like a quilt, the artwork is built in three layers, with batting between the top and bottom fabrics. The free-motion quilting is done at the sewing machine, where the artist “draws” with the needle as if it were a pencil. By varying the thread colors according to the fabric’s motifs and the desired effect, she creates organic, abstract patterns that hint at botanical shapes without depicting them. This approach gives Souvenir d’un rêve a presence that is both poetic and meditative.

The delicate palette of pink, yellow, green, and white captures the essence of memories: what remains of a fading dream, a gentle impression, a lingering glow. Mounted on artist’s canvas, the work is ready to hang and enrich any space with its poetry and light, like a soothing, dreamlike piece.
